Student graduation / enrolment / registration / ceremony ...
Look at this web page, then at the LH sidebar, where 'Graduation' is open/
highlighted. Read in turn ALL the sub-bits of it.
The process is badly described. There is a pervasive lack of clarity about
the distinctions between: enrolment, registration, getting the parchment
certificate, the ceremony. These terms are used differently from elsewhere
(differently in the context of graduation than their meaning in the same LH
sidebar menu, where "registration" is used to mean something different);
the terms are never, ever defined; and apparent synonyms sometimes have
contrasting meanings e.g. 'enrolment' vs. 'registration', etc.
There is no mention at the top level of anything about avoiding the ceremony:
it is only buried in the 2nd subsection and only if you open a tab marked
'campus', or at the bottom of the 1st subsection on "before graduation" but
not on the sections about either the ceremony or the parchment certificates.
To avoid going to the ceremony you must first enrol for it, then fill in a
second form to un-enrol for it. In one place it says if you don't turn up for
the ceremony you may not graduate; then that you will automatically get the
certificate by post: i.e. the pages contradict themselves.
Among the worst problems is that staff cannot see how it is done, since it is
done only from Myglasgow for students; and even that information is buried
obscurely in a subsection, inside a tab labelled "campus" (not "instructions" or
"enrolment" or anything useful), and then followng a link about "graduation

Note that the August diet is almost always called a "resit" even though some
of the students are sitting the exam for the first time, and not resitting at

Online: what rooms are booked vs. free:
see what rooms are free; whether your room is free before/after yours, etc.
There is a brilliant bit of software for this, though it takes a little
practice to get the most out of it.
- Go to your own (staff) portal, logging in as necessary
- Click on "Timetables and Room Booking"
- In the rectangle "Quick links",
click on "Whats on in your rooms"
- You can search on:
- A building or a room;
- An organisation unit e.g. School of psychology
- A course by its course code. If you know the code, you can do
this without specifying the org.unit.
- You can view things by the rooms you specified OR by month, week, day
- If you are looking at just one course e.g. one of your lectures, then
the Month view is perhaps better.
- The Rooms view shows you whether "your" room is occupied before and after
- You can save searches, which makes future lookups faster if only
because you can modify a saved search faster than create one from scratch.
